Discussion on what was included in a quote for security work to be done in the Assessors and Treasurer's offices highlighted Tuesday's meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.

Treasurer Lisa Lindsay and Assessor Dawn Duffy shared information with the commissioners on their findings since the last meeting when a quote from JMB Contracting, LLC was accepted.

The quote for $36,673.30 was accepted for security upgrades to the their respective offices. However, after Lindsay contacted the firm, it was discovered that a component, valued at $11,000 was missing from the quote.

Lindsay also told the commissioners she was waiting for additional clarification on a number of other items, including measurements for cabinets and determining whether or not the work would meet Americans with Disabilities (ADA) requirements.

After consulting with County Attorney Amy Miller, it was determined that the original quote from JMB Contracting, LLC was an incomplete quote and the county was then obligated to go with a quote of $53,850.00 from Otte Construction.

Work on the project would be completed later this year.

Also on the agenda was a request from Ashley Siebrandt, Wayne County Clerk/Magistrate discussing the hours the courthouse is open.

She and several other courthouse employees said that while the courthouse offices are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the doors are generally open at approximately 7:30 a.m. each work day. This sometimes leads to people waiting on the benches in the main lobby in the dark when courthouse employees come into the building.

Commissioners agreed that a change will be made for safety reasons and the building will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. going forward.

Also on the agenda was the approval of 10 applications for Lodging Tax Grant fund as recommended by the Wayne County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

This include:

Gene Topp Car Show ($1,000); Wakefield Alumni ($500); Wayne County Fair-Fair Book ($2,000); Wayne County Fair- Radio Advertising ($2,000); Cruise Night in Wayne ($2,000); Juneteenth in the Park ($500); Little Red Hen Theatre-Aesop Greatest Hits ($500): Little Red Hen Theatre - Christmas Story - ($500); Little Red Hen Theatre - Dueling Pianos ($500)and Boomerfest ($1,000).

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, May 6 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courtroom.
