In a very short meeting, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners discussed moving foward with plans to upgrade the waterlines to the courthouse and awarded a bid for several bridge projects.
Commissioner Dean Burbach told the board that he and Casey Junck, City of Wayne Water/Wastewater Superintendent, had looked at the current water lines to the west of the courthouse and noted that when upgrades are made, the location of several lines may have to be adjusted.
Commissioners discussed the size of the current lines and the sizes that would be needed at the courthouse in the future. They also felt it would be in the county's best interest to have someone with knowledge of this type of work come in and determine what needs to be done to make the upgrades.
Along with the water lines to the courthouse, commissioners discussed the state of the lines to the Annex Building and what upgrades would be needed to that building.
Commissioner Burbach will work to find someone who is able to provide the county with this type of information.
Highway Superintendent Kyle Huff brought forth a recommendation for awarding the bid for corrugated metal pipes with steel headwalls and wingwalls for bridge project CBMP (7). This involves two sites in Wayne County and three in Madison County.
The bid from B's Enterprises of Hoskins for $307,014.60 for the materials was accepted. There is a 8-14 week construction time with the materials being delivered to the county next spring. County crews will install the bridge materials and the county will be reimbursed 55% of the cost of the project.
At the conclusion of Tuesday's meeting, Luke Virgil, Director of Wayne America, Inc. introduced the members of this year's Leadership Wayne class who were spending the day at the courthouse, learning about the various roles of both the county and city officials.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courthouse.
