Council moves forward with change of meeting date

During a relatively short meeting, the Wayne City Council took steps to change the meeting date of regular council meetings.

First reading approval was given to an ordinance that will change the meeting dates from the first and third Tuesday of each month to the first and third Monday. This change will become effective with the first meeting in July.

Following a public hearing, council members approved a resolution for the final plat for Riley's Addition.

City Planner Joel Hansen told the council that the Planning Commission recommended approval of the final plat, which involves property  near the former Final Touch. He also shared with the council the steps necessary to best move forward with making the necessary changes.

In other action, council members approved Resolution 2025-29, approving an interlocal agreement between the City of Wayne and the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges, d/b/a Wayne State College.

Wayne Police Chief Marlen Chinn told the council that the city and college have had an agreement in place for a number of years and the new agreement involves only minor changes. The city will have an officer on the WSC campus three days a week, for a total of 18 hours each week.

Cody Westerhold, Dean of Students at WSC, told the council that  the city and the college have a "great working agreement" that works well for both parties.

Council members approved a resolution which involves plans and specifications for the Wayne Prairie Park - Phase 4 East Ditch Storm Sewer Project.

The cost estimate for this work is $360,000 and will be paid for out of street funds.

Pay Application and Certificate of Payment No. 8 in the amount of $85,648.00 to Otte Construction Company, LLC for the Wayne Parks & Rec Maintenance Building Project was approved.

Keith Moje with Otte Construction gave an update on the work that has been done and the time frame for getting the building ready to allow the Rec Department to move equipment to the new facility.

Council member Austyn Houser was appointed to the Community Redevelopment Authority. He will replace former Mayor Cale Giese on this board.

Council members also held a brief executive session in regard to the City Administrator evaluation.

The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, May 20  at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 513 Main Street.
