One year after Jersi Jensen took home the Class B girls singles state title, younger brother Dylan also represented Wayne with top honors during the 2025 NSAA State Bowling Championships.
From Sun Valley Lanes & Games in Lincoln, Monday showcased Class B individual bowling championships for the girls and boys.
Head Wayne High bowling coach Josh Johnson said, “I am so proud of how all our kids battled today (Monday). The qualifying rounds were so fast and crazy but they continued to fight to the end. Once we got to the bracket play, the crowd got rocking and the kids gave it their all. Huge congrats to Dylan for bringing back the Championship. A great day all in all for Wayne bowling.”
Girls competition opened the morning where Wayne’s Lindsay Niemann and Graycen Trautman joined 28 other girls as they began their four- game qualifying games.
The oily sport pattern made misses very small and spares an extremely important thing. The girls battled changes in conditions and three lane changes. Scores were lower than expected but a challenge for everyone. The top eight scores would move on to an eight-person bracket.
After the first four games senior Lindsay Niemann posted a score of 597, good enough for 14th place as sophomore Gracyn Trautman’s 644 put her into fourth and into bracket play.
In the first round of the bracket, Trautman would fall behind by 25 pins. She would come out strong in game two and cut the lead to single digits. However, a few opens down the stretch would put Trautman back a bit. Trautman would lose her match to Elkhorn North’s Alayna Vaughn and would finish in fifth place overall.
Wayne’s sophomore trio of Aiden Petersen, Ben Haschke and Dylan Jensen battled for spots in the top eight in the Class B boys bowling singles.
Petersen would be struck with the split bug, getting double digits on the day and could not overcome it finishing in a tie for 13th place.
Haschke and Jensen would play solidly all day. Jensen’s 778 was good enough for the first seed and Haschke’s 711 put him at seventh.
Haschke would start his bracket play against the 2nd seed Colin Meysenberg from Lincoln Pius. Haschke would struggle a bit in game one and would fall behind 29 pins. The two would battle evenly in game two and Haschke would fall by 24 pins and earn seventh place medalist honors.
Jensen found his first game extremely difficult and quickly found himself down 47 pins to Elkhorn North’s Zander Limbeck. Jensen found the groove in game two and went off for a day high score of 248. This huge game helped Jensen complete the epic comeback and win the match 389-363. In match 2, Jensen would get out quickly and keep the pressure on his opponent both games. Jensen’s 232 and 237 would help him win by over a hundred pins and advance to the Championship match against Pius’s Meysenberg.
Jensen would again get out quickly and build an early big lead. However an open in the 10th opened the door a bit and Jensen would lead only by 29. The two would battle throughout game two as Jensen kept it clean through seven frames and continued to hold a solid lead. Jensen and Meysenberg would end up pretty even in game two and it was good enough for Jensen to win the match 411-381.
With the win, Dylan Jensen won the Class B State Individual Championship.
