Fair season kicks off with Dixon County Fair next week

Fair season is gearing up and the Dixon County Fair is the first in the area this year, running Wednesday, July 9 through Sunday, July 13.

Activities got underway on Wednesday, July 9 with entry of all 4-H exhibits in the morning and 4-H Livestock check-in from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Northeast Nebraska Tractor Pull with antique tractors will take place, beginning at 11 a.m. and the Outlaw Tractor Pull is set for 7 p.m.

On Thursday morning, July 10, the 4-H Horse Show begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Bucket Calf Show is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The annual Free Barbecue will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening at the same time as the 4-H Ice Cream Social.

The flag raising ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. and followed by the presentation of Awards.

The featured entertainment for the evening will be the Party Rock Rodeo - Battle of the Bulls.

Among the activities on the schedule for Friday, July 11 will be the 4-H/FFA Beef Show at 9 a.m.; the 4-H Rabbit Show at 2 p.m. and the 4-H Poultry Show at 3:30 p.m.

A Power Wheels event will be held at 7 p.m. with those taking part providing their own power wheel and helmet.

This will be followed by R&R Total Destruction Demo Derby and Amy Ellsworth in the Beer Garden following the derby.

Saturday's events include the 4-H Swine Show at 8 a.m., the 4-H Sheep Show at 9 a.m., the 4-H Goat Sow at 10:30 a.m. and the 4-H Cow/Calf Show at 2 p.m.

Faith & Family Night with Rend Collective & Zellmer Family Ministry is set for 6:30 p.m. with Team Sorting taking place at 7 p.m.

This year's fair wraps up on Sunday, July 13 and begins with a Community Church Service at 8 a.m.

The 4-H Junior Leaders will hold an Omelette Feed from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Elite Showmanship Contest and the Open Class Horse Show both begin at 9 a.m., while the Exhibit Hall Trophy Presentation will take place at 1p.m., the Bonus Auction at 1:30 p.m. and the release of 4-H Exhibits at 3 p.m.

The Garden Tractor Pull is scheduled for 3 p.m. and Barrel Racing at 7 p.m.

The Love-A-Lop Petting Zoo will be on the grounds throughout the fair and a number of free youth activities are being planned for Wednesday, July 9. On Friday and Saturday, there will be a number of 4-H sponsored events including a pie eating contest, scavenger hunt and teen dance.

The event is funded in part by a grant from the Dixon County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
