Karen Ann “Cookie” Ulrich, 79, of Wayne, formerly of Wakefield, died, surrounded by her loving family, Friday, May 19, 2023, at Wayne Countryview Care. 

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to the Ulrich Family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne. 

Karen Ann “Cookie” Ulrich was born Nov. 25, 1943 in Coleridge to Ralph and Berniece (Dennis) Sherer. Growing up on the farm, she was a mother figure to her younger siblings. Cookie was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. She attended school at Cedar Center near Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1961. She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Wayne until her marriage. Cookie married Wayne Ulrich  on Feb. 23, 1963 at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. In January of 1964, their first daughter, Tammy, was born, and in June of 1965, their second daughter, Pam, was born.  She was employed at Milton G. Waldbaum Company for nine years, Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Norfolk and Sioux City for 18 years, Waldbaums’s office four years, and First National Bank of Omaha until retirement. Cookie enjoyed decorating their home, along with tea pot, doll, and teddy bear collections.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their activities were her greatest treasures.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne, of 60 years; daughters Tammy (Brian) Foote and Pam (Harley) Henderson all of Wayne; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Tiffany) Foote, Brandon (Staci) Foote, Cory Foote, Cody (Steph) Henderson, Jessie (Mason) McCain and Brady Henderson; seven great-grandchildren: Easton and Alex Foote, Eli, Andrew, Cameron, and Beckett Foote, and Miles McCain; six siblings: Larry (Karen) Sherer of Wakefield, Junior (Marilyn) Sherer of South Sioux City, Ed Sherer of Wakefield, Jan (Terry) Davis of Oshkosh, Jo (Ray) Junck of Wayne, and Bev (Dick) Soden of Wayne; one sister-in-law, Carol Ulrich, of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee; one aunt, Lenora Dennis, of Osmond; 23 nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws (Harlan and Mildred Ulrich), and brother-in-law, Dean Ulrich.
