Volunteer firefighters from Carroll, Wayne, Winside and Laurel, along with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Wayne County Emergency Manager, responded to a fire on Thursday afternoon.

The fire, located five miles east of Carroll, involved a grove of trees. No buildings or other property was destroyed in the fire.

Along with the firefighters, Wayne County crews assisted with backhoes to help bury some of the burning debris.

Farmers with discs helped keep the fire from spreading to adjacent fields.

Crews remained on scene to make sure the fire was out, as the forecast calls for high winds on Friday.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
