The public is invited to an open house for Stearns Hall, Wayne State College’s new residence hall, from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. Light refreshments will be served.
Stearns Hall is located on the east side of campus, across the street from the Center for Applied Technology building. Visitors may park in Lot 10 north of Stearns Hall and enter the hall through the main entrance on the west side of the building. Guided tours will run periodically throughout the open house.
Stearns Hall is the first residence hall built since the construction of Bowen Hall in 1966. The four-story structure will accommodate 276 new and returning students and feature 168 suite-style beds and 108 traditional beds. The main lobby will have an open kitchen, two televisions, a lounge area, pool table, and a front desk reception area. Each floor above the main lobby will have a smaller lounge area. There will be an exercise area on the second floor.
Wayne State named the new residence hall in honor of Dr. Sheila M. Stearns’ distinguished leadership of the college from 1999 to 2003. Stearns served as the 10th president of the Wayne State and was the first woman to lead the institution. Stearns passed away May 23, 2023.
