Book lovers will now have an opportunity to shop a used book sale on a much more frequent basis than in the past.
The Wayne Friends of the Library have now moved all the books and other materials previously stored under the stage in the Wayne City Auditorium to the former Final Touch location at 110 South Logan Street in Wayne.
The new space will allow for volunteers to staff the "new, used bookstore" for sales twice a month and on special occasions.
The first of these sales is planned for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The location on South Logan Street has over 4,000 items, including books of all types, audio books, CDs, magazines, games, puzzles and miscellaneous items. The majority of the items are priced at 50¢ to $1.
"We are excited for the new space on South Logan Street. Now, we don't have to worry about scheduling book sales around other events, storage of the books and set up and take down," said Terri Headley, who currently serves as secretary of the group.
Proceeds from the sale support a variety of programs offered at the Wayne Public Library. These include bringing in Humanities speakers, providing for continuing education for library staff and assisting with providing matching funds for grants.
Friends of the Library also assist with taking care of the gardens at the library. The "Garden Gnomes" as they are known, water and care for the flower beds and landscape that surround the library building.
"We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our projects. We encourage everyone to become a member of Friends of the Library, but appreciate any volunteer, whether or not they join the group," Headley said.
The group is currently looking for additional members to assist the Library in its mission of "serving and enhancing the community Wayne since 2004."
Those wishing to contribute materials to the Friends, may drop off small donations at the Wayne Public Library. Larger donations should be brought to the Final Touch location on Logan Street.
