Speech team takes part in invitational

Members of the Wayne High Speech team took part in the Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invitational on Feb. 1.

The following members of the JV Speech Team placed at the event:

Riley Olson, fifth in Program Oral Interpretation; Aleigha Hale and Rachel Holland, third in Duet Acting; Sharon Vasquez, second in Serious Prose; Samantha Wright and Taesha Dunklau, second in Duet; Cole Zach, second in Persuasive; Alexis Adams, second in Poetry; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Aleigha Hale, Callen Gamble, Nov Hawkins, Rachel Holland, and Riley Olson, second.

Wayne garnered top honors in four JV events:  Alison Sanders in Poetry; Boden Dobbins in Informative; Caleb Raulston in Entertainment; and Landen Claussen in Humorous Prose.

The following varsity speakers, also placed on Saturday:

The Duet Acting team of Ceilus Ibarra and Sienna Klinetobe, 12th overall; Whitney Hadcock, 10th in Serious Prose; Josie Ley, 10th in Persuasive; Jordyn Clinchard, 10th in Extemporaneous; the Duet of Alec Shaffer and Aidan Bohnert, 10th; Olivia Hanson, eighth in Persuasive; the Duet of Kennasyn Blecke and Grace Junck, eighth; the OID of Ceilus Ibarra, Grace Junck, Josie Ley, Kennasyn Blecke, Norah Armstrong, seventh;

Jordyn Clinchard, sixth in Persuasive; Colby Raulston in POI; Abi Hawthorne, fifth in Entertainment; Sophia Spieker, third in both Poetry and Entertainment; Nyamalo Kantai, third in POI; the Duet of Gabriel Armstrong and Wanso Barner, third; Clara Ankeny, third in Persuasive; Sienna Klinetobe, second in Poetry; Norah Armstrong second in POI; Alec Schaffer, runner-up in both Humorous and Serious; and the OID of Gabriel Armstrong, Gavin Anderson, Johen Piper, Colby Raulston, and Aidan Bohnert, second.

Wayne’s Ceilus Ibarra and Colby Raulston were the Blue Devils’ top individual medalists, winning top honors in Poetry and Serious Prose.

In the team sweepstakes, Wayne finished in the top spots in both the JV and Varsity divisions for the second time this season, winning the Varsity division by 73 points.

Next up for the Blue Devil Speakers is the seventh annual Wayne High/Wayne State Classic on Feb. 8.
