Speech team wins Classic

In the team sweepstakes during the Wayne High/Wayne State Classic on Feb. 4, Wayne High finished in first place in perhaps the largest win in program history. 

The team finished with 222 points.  Runner-up was Hartington with 177 points, followed by Pierce with 163 and Wausa with 160.

The following members of the Speech Team placed at the event:

The Duet Acting team of Ceilus Ibarra and Olivia Hanson, 22nd; the Duet of Grace Junck and Kennasyn Blecke, 18th; Abi Hawhorne, 16th in Entertainment; the Oral Interpretation of Drama group of Aidan Bohnert, Gavin Anderson, Johen Piper, and Colby Raulston, 16th; the OID of Aleigha Hale, Mia Kuester, and Ariana Mulhair, 15th; the Duet of Sienna Klinetobe and Ava Elliot, 14th; Sophia Spieker, 13th in Entertainment; Abi Hawthorne, 12th in Entertainment; Norah Armstrong, 11th in Program Oral Interpretation; Maiah Davis, 10th in Extemporaneous. 

Olivia Hanson finished ninth in Persuasive; the Duet of Sophia Spieker and Nyamalo Kantai, eighth; Alondra Vega, eighth in Serious Prose; Ceilus Ibarra, seventh in Poetry; Colby Raulston, sixth in POI; the OID team of Orion Spieker, Ashton Brandow, Easton Blecke, and Maddie Franta, sixth; Parker Kesting, sixth in Extemp.; the Duet of Aidan Bohnert and Alec Schaffer, fifth; Orion Spieker, fifth in Humorous; Nyamalo Kantai, third in POI; and the OID team of Kennasyn Blecke, Grace Junck, Adrienne Anderson, Josie Ley, and Norah Armstong, fourth.

Wayne’s top two finishers on the day were Alec Shaffer and Maiah Davis, who received runner up honors in Humorous Prose and Persuasive respectively.

Next up for the Blue Devils is the Home Show on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. at the high school.  Admission is free and the public is invited.
