Both Jason Jones and his wife, Carrie Jones, have had court appearances in Cedar County court in recent days.
Nathan Stratten, counsel for Carrie Jones, asked for a Plea of Abatement on Carrie Jones' charges in connection with the shooting death of four people in Laurel in August of 2022.
State Special Deputy County Attorney Corey O'Brien said the court finds "sufficient evidence at this stage of the proceedings" to move forward and the defendant's Plea of Abatement was denied.
Carrie Jones is set to appear in Cedar County District Court on May 22 for arraignment and entry of a plea.
Her husband, Jason, was not physically in the Cedar County Courtroom this week, but instead called in from a Lincoln facility. He is being held there and receiving treatment for burns he allegedly received in connection with the homicides.
Jason Jones pleaded not guilty to four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree arson and four counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony.
Each of Jones' four murder charges has a maximum penalty of the death sentence and a minimum penalty of life in prison.
