The Wayne High/Wayne State College Classic was held Feb. 8 at Wayne State College for speech students from throughout the area.
As the home team, Wayne opted out of the team sweepstakes, where Boone Central, Hartington/Newcastle, and West Point/Beemer finished in the top three spots.
The following members of the Speech Team placed at the event:
Cole Zach, 17th overall in Persuasive, Sophia Spieker, 14th in Poetry, Landen Claussen, 14th in Humorous Prose; Clara Ankeny, 13th in Persuasive; the Duet Acting team of Gabriel Armstrong and Wanso Barner, 11th; the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Aleigha Hale, Callen Gamble, Nov Hawkins, Rachel Holland, and Riley Olson, 11th; the Duet of Aleigha Hale and Rachel Holland, 10th; Josie Ley, 10th in Persuasive and the Duet of Ceilus Ibarra and Sienna Klinetobe, ninth.
Also, Jordyn Clinchard was eighth in Extemporaneous; the Duet of Grace Junck and Kennasyn Blecke, eighth; Colby Raulston, eighth in Serious Prose; Olivia Hanson, seventh in Persuasive; Adrienne Anderson, seventh in both Entertainment and Serious; the OID of Ceilus Ibarra, Grace Junck, Josie Ley, Kennasyn Blecke, and Norah Armstrong, sixth; Norah Armstrong, fifth in Program Oral Interpretation; Sienna Klinetobe, fourth in Poetry; Nyamalo Kantai, fourth in POI; Alec Shaffer, fourth in Humorous; Aidan Bohnert and Alec Schaffer, third in Duet; and Abi Hawthorne, third in Entertainment.
Wayne brought home three runners-up and three event champions on the day.
Jordyn Clinchard in Informative, Ceilus Ibarra in Poetry, and Alec Schaffer in Serious all brought home silver medals. Sophia Spieker in Entertainment, Colby Raulston in POI, and the OID team of Aidan Bohnert, Colby Raulston, Gabriel Armstrong, Gavin Anderson, and Johen Piper all won the gold.
Next up for the Blue Devil Speakers is a split-squad weekend on Saturday, Feb. 15, with half the team heading to Wausa and half to David City.
