This summer's big event in Laurel kicks off Friday, June 17 and runs through Father's Day on June 19.
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. that Friday with free admission to an all ages pool party at the Laurel pool. There, attendees have the opportunity to win prizes from local businesses.
These businesses will drop ping pong balls into the pool sporting their logo for participants to quickly round up. The next day, anyone who has a ping pong ball can go to the corresponding business to collect their prize.
The first day of activities ends with a family movie night at Haskell Field. Bring a blanket or chairs, your family and friends and a craving for popcorn from one of the banks in town, and enjoy the movie Encanto starting at 9:30 p.m.
Wake up early the next morning at 7:30 a.m. to register for the 5K/1-mile Barnyard Dash hosted by the LCC XC Team. The $10 registration for the 8 a.m. run, starting at the Shelter House in City Park, will go towards the team as a fundraiser.
At 10 a.m., the parade will start its procession at Hillcrest Care Center and travel down Oak Street. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the care center and organizers will post a parade map on Facebook soon.
The rest of the day on Saturday, June 18 is packed full of fun events for all ages.
In the park, a picnic lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Inflatables will also run from 12 to 3 p.m.
The LCC FFA will sponsor two exciting fundraisers in the park.
At Cow Patty Bingo, from 11:30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m., participants can buy individual squares on large bingo "card" for $50 each. If the cow lays a patty on their square, the person will win a prize.
Students in the LLC FFA have also spent three weeks planning an Ag Olympics event, packed with fun, ag-inspired challenges. Registration costs $20 for teams of four people.
Some of these challenges include barrel racing, where two team members will ride horse and cowboy style through a course, a five-gallon bucket carry, a tractor tire flip, pig wrestling and more.
Comprised of over 40 students, the organization will use the funds raised during the weekend to cover costs for conventions and competitions throughout the upcoming school year. They also plan to give back to the alumni that have offered immeasurable support to the members throughout recent years.
"We are excited to have this opportunity to be active in the community and we hope everyone comes out to support and have a great time," president of the LCC FFA and Student Representative of the Laurel Chamber of Commerce, Maddy Graham, said.
Evening activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the LCC Alumni Association Banquet hosted by the Laurel VFW.
From 8 p.m. to midnight, the band known as Loose Cannons will play during the Street Dance, located on Main Street between Oak and Cedar Street.
On Sunday, June 19, three Father's Day activities will round off the lively weekend.
The Laurel Veteran's Club Breakfast will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
At 10 a.m., the Cedar View Golf Course plans to host a Father's Day Golf Tournament.
A Coffee/Open House event at the Hillcrest Care Center from 3 to 4 p.m. will conclude the 2022 Laurel Ag Days.
