The Christian Kids Club (CKC) at the Winside Methodist Church has completed a community service project.
CKC is a kids program for preschool to fifth grade every Wednesday after school during school year. Any child can attend.
Leaders pick students up from school and take them to church where they are fed a meal. Then they take part in some form of Bible lesson, mixed with emphasis on kindness to everyone.
Connie Cautrell is in her second year with the program.
"Last year I was a helper, and the older ladies of the church stepped down. Last year we had about 15 kids. This year we average 30 to 34 kids," Cautrell said.
She said she wanted to encourage the kids to learn about kindness and community involvement, and that even at their age they can make a difference.
"We decided on a community food pantry. So after some research I found a pattern and we received money from Thrivent. We purchased the wood and my husband cut all the pieces out," Cautrell said.
The youth painted all the pieces and helped construct it. They were excited to stock it up with food.
"They love checking it each week at Kids Club to make sure it is stocked," Cautrell said.
She stressed that the Food Pantry is there for people in need.
"We have other community service projects lined up and I am proud of the kids! Cautrell added.
