The Wayne County Courthouse is celebrating 125 years since the building was constructed. A large crowd was on hand for last week's Chamber Coffee, which was held on the main level of the building. County Commissioners Jim Rabe, Dean Burbach and Terry Sievers spoke during the coffee.
Among the groups performing during the afternoon were the Wayne High School Band, under the direction of Alex Wieland and the St. Mary's Elementary School Band, under the direction of Mary Kay Hasemann.
The courthouse building was completed in three months time, just prior to the expiration of the time allotted to the county to receive the land for free. County officials began moving into the building on Dec. 28, 1899.
