18-under Devils 3-2 at districts

The Wayne Dirt Devils 18-under team won three games in district play over the weekend to improve to 12-7 on the season.

On Thursday, the 18-under Devils split two games at Yankton, winning the first game 5-2 and losing the second 8-7. 

In the opener, Reagan McGuire and Liberty Titiml both had doubles to highlight a six-hit effort. Delaney Kruse had two hits and an RBI, Taytem Ellis scored twice and McGuire had two RBI. Sami Gubbels struck out eight and allowed two hits and four walks to get the win.

In the finale, Wayne gave up eight in the third and tried to come back, but fell a run short. 

McGuire had two hits, including a triple, and had two RBI and two runs scored. Rylin Hall added a double and Titiml, Kruse and Jersi Jensen each added hits. McGuire took the pitching loss with Jordyn Gamble pitching in relief.

Wayne opened district play Thursday with a 15-0 win over Tekamah-Herman. 

Wayne cranked out 17 hits in the three-inning win. Jensen had a single, double and triple with two RBI, Caitlyn Mostek had three hits nad three RBI and Hall scored twice and drove in four. Ellis, Titiml, Kruse and Kierah Haase each had two hits, with Gubbels and Gamble combining on a three-inning no-hitter.

On Saturday, Wayne handled the Lightning in a 14-0 win and outlasted NEN 8-1.

In the first game, Kruse homered and tripled, driving in four runs and scoring three. Ellis scored three times and Titiml came home twice to highlight the easy win. Gubbels allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in three innings.

Against NEN, Ellis and Haase each had two hits and Mostek tripled and drove in two for the winners. Titiml, Kruse and Haase each scored two runs. Gubbels tossed a three-hitter, striking out seven.

Wayne lost twice on Sunday to bow out of the tournament, losing to the Oakland Rockets 4-2 and dropping an 8-6 decision to the David City Crossfire.

Against Oakland, the Rockets scored two in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie for the win. Kruse, Haase and Jensen all had hits and Titiml and Haase scored runs for Wayne.

In the final game, David City came back with six in the fourth to overcome a 5-2 deficit and eliminate Wayne from the tournament.

Mostek had three hits in the losing effort, Titiml added two hits and Ellis had a double. Kruse scored two runs and Haase had two RBI.
