18-under Devils win three of four

The Wayne Dirt Devils split a road doubleheader at Norfolk and swept Pender at home in action last week.

On Wednesday, Wayne faced the Golden Girls 18-under team and came away with a split, dropping the opener 12-0 and taking the nightcap 8-6.

In the first game, Wayne was limited to two hits as Caitlyn Mostek and Rylin Hall both had singles. Sami Gubbels was roughed up for 10 hits, walking three while striking out one.

In the second tilt, Wayne bounced back by scoring all eight runs in the first two innings before holding off a Golden Girls comeback.

Wayne outhit Norfolk 13-4, getting two hits each from Mostek, Delaney Kruse, Jersi Jensen and Serenity Heil-Ellis. Mostek and Reagan McGuire each had two RBI’s and Kruse, Mostek and Taytem Ellis each scored two runs.

The bats came through for Wayne in their Thursday home twinbill with Pender, winning both games by scores of 8-4 and 7-3.

In the first game, doubles by Kruse and Ellis sparked a six-hit attack that included singles from Liberty Titml, Jordyn Gamble, Mostek and McGuire. Gubbels struck out seven and scattered six hits and four walks to get the win.

The finale saw Pender outhit Wayne 5-4, but Wayne took advantage of four walks and six errors to finish off the guests. Titiml had two hits and Ellis and Hall added singles. Ellis scored two runs.

Wayne hosts Yankton Fury Black on Thursday before going to state this weekend in Hastings.
