Nate Ackerman feasted on Minot State pitching in a big way Saturday, hitting four home runs in a doubleheader to help the Wildcats sweep the Beavers, 8-4 and 5-3, in action at Minot, N.D.
In the opener, Wayne State rallied from a 4-0 deficit behind Ackerman’s big swings. He hit a two-run homer in the fourth to get the Wildcats on the board, added another two-run blast to tie the game in the fifth, then hit his third round-tripper in the seventh to cap the scoring. Albert Johnson followed Ackerman home on all three blasts and had two hits, along with Nick McIntee.
Taner Ledezma got the win, going five innings and striking out three. Joey Lenihan and Curtis Bussard both worked an inning of relief.
In the nightcap, Mitch Ragan fanned 12 Beavers in six innings, and Ackerman and Bodie Cooper both hit home runs to cap the sweep.
Wayne State had 11 hits in the second game, two each coming from Cooper, Johnson, Aaron Krier and Alex Kreft.
The two teams finish their four-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
