HARTINGTON – The Allen girls claimed their second straight district track title Wednesday, and the Allen boys came home as runners-up in the D-1 district meet at Hartington.
The Lady Eagles had a 10-point cushion over Wausa in the nine-team race and won three events on the day. Kaylen Smith claimed two of the wins, dominating the two hurdle events, while Gabby Sullivan came away with a win in the high jump.
Allen's boys only scored in a handful of events, but made the most of it to get the runner-up plaque. Tayler Kumm won the 1,600 and 3,200, S.T. O'Keefe took the 800 and both were on the winning 3,200-meter relay team.
Winside's girls finished eighth overall and will have two entries in the state meet. Senior Kelly Tweedy will represent the Wildcats in Omaha, winning the discus and taking second in the shot put. Winside's boys also finished eighth, but had no state qualifiers. JaShaun Vyborny just missed on a state qualifying effort, finishing third in the triple jump, while Mason King (300 hurdles and Zach Morris (long jump) finished fourth.
