Wayne State junior Ben Allen recorded a first-place finish in the shot put to lead the Wayne State College men’s indoor track and field team Friday evening at the South Dakota State Division II Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
Allen scored a first place finish in the shot put with a winning mark of 51 feet, 8 1/2 inches.
In other field events, Mikhail Sands recorded a third-place finish in the long jump at 22-0 1/4, Noah Lilly was ninth in the pole vault clearing 13-2 3/4 and Aaron English tied for ninth in the high jump at 6-0 3/4.
The top finisher in running events was senior Nathan Pearson, earning a sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.96 while teammate Bryce Holcomb was 10th at 2:00.49. Preston Davis collected an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals at 8.70 seconds.
In women’s action, Mckenzie Scheil posted an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw, placing third in the weight throw at 59-8 1/4, an NCAA provisional mark that currently sits 10th overall in NCAA Div. II. She also added a second place finish in the shot put at 44-7 3/4.
Tia Jones had a 10th-place finish in the weight throw (53-4 1/2) while Kenzie Sullivan was 10th in the shot put at 40-1 3/4.
Hanna Lazure had a seventh place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-1, while Kim Johnson earned a seventh-place finish in the one mile run posting a time of 5:32.09.
Jordyn Pester placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in 26.82 seconds and Joan Jelimo was 10th in the 800-meter run at 2:24.68. In the 5,000-meter run, Allie Rosener finished 11th in 18:32.26 with teammate Jade Rickard right behind in 12th at 18:49.90.
The next meet for Wayne State College will be at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn., on Friday and Saturday.
