An Animation Camp was held recently on the Wayne State College campus.
It was facilitated by Erica Larsen of Calibraska. The camp is made possible by a collaboration between Wayne State College, the Wayne Community Activity Center, and Blue Cat Gallery & Studio with funding partially coming from the Wayne Area Legacy Fund
There were 11 students in the morning session and nine students in the afternoon session. The morning session ages range was 9-12years and the afternoon was 13-17 year.
"I'm always so impressed by the students from the Wayne area! They are so excited and fun to work with. This year was even more special because we had so many return from last year. It tells me we are offering a really fun and substantial opportunity for them," said Larsen.
Additionally, there were two Wayne State interns helping: Alexandra Splittgerber and Justin Guenther, both graphic design majors. Their statewide intern was Alanis Roldan, a student at UNL.
During the camps participants learn animation history, principles, and concepts, and create their own animations. Participants are able to try hand-drawn, stop-motion, and historic animation processes, using optical toys, paper, clay, and other materials. In the camp for older students and adults, participants are able to learn the basics of how to control movement at a frame-by-frame level and utilize straight ahead and key frame animation to make their own creations.
They are also able to learn theories that apply to any animation technique they might want to pursue. At the end of the week, participants’ animations are projected and screened for families and community members.
