Area athletes competing in second day of State Track and Field Championships

After a day full of wet weather, Saturday’s second day of the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships finally saw a break in the weather as the rain finally gave way late Saturday morning.

Area athletes from Wayne, Allen and Winside were in action Saturday in the pursuit for medals. Wayne junior Kylie Hammer recorded her second medal of the meet, posting a sixth-place finish in the Class B girls triple jump.

In Class D action, Allen's Tayler Kumm picked up his third medal overall with a sixth in the Class D boys 1,600-meter run, adding it to his runner-up effort in the 3,200 and his leg on the winning 3,200-meter relay team. Winside's Callie Finn earned a medal in the Class D girls 1,600-meter run with an eighth-place finish.

Class B Boys: Top 2 -- Ogallala 58, Wahoo 36. Wayne tied for 38th with 1 point.
Class C Boys: Top 2 -- Norfolk Catholic 57.5, Thayer Central and Central City 37 each. LCC tied for 50th with 2 points, Wakefield did not score.
Class C Girls: Top 2 -- Chase County 65, Crofton and Ainsworth 40 each. LCC and Wakefield did not score.
Class D Boys: Top 2 -- South Loup 38, BDS 37. Allen was 13th with 21 points. Winside did not score.
Class D Girls: Top 2 -- Giltner 68, Brady 49. Winside tied for 54th with 1 point. Allen did not score.
