Area track and field athletes competed among the best of the best in Northeast Nebraska Thursday and came away with three first-place finishes in the 23rd annual Northeast Nebraska Track and Field Classic in Norfolk.
All three victories were earned by Wayne High athletes, as Kylie Hammer took top honors in the long jump and triple jump, while Jenna Trenhaile won the discus.
Hammer had a hand in three medal-winning efforts on the day, adding a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash and anchoring the 1,600-relay team that finished one spot shy of a medal in seventh place. Trenhaile was also a part of the 1,600-meter relay.
Gabi Meyer earned a medal individually, finishing fifth in the 800, and was also part of the 3,200-meter relay team that finsihed sixth, including Allison Echtenkamp, Kiara Hochstein and Molly Hoskins.
Callie Finn of Winside and Savannah Nelson of Wakefield also earned medals in girls action. Nelson was third in the 400-meter dash, while Finn claimed a fifth in the 1,600-meter run.
In boys action, Grayson McBride of Wayne had the best day with three medals. he took third in both the high jump and long jump and added a sixth in the triple jump.
Nolan Reynolds also came away with multiple medals. He took runner-up honors in the pole vault and was joined by Tyler Pecena, RJ Liska and Aaron Reynolds on the 1,600-meter relay team that finished third.
Christian Rogers and Jack Evetovich also came away with medals. Rogers took fourth in the 200-meter dash, while Evetovich got a personal best with a leap of 6-foot-2 to take fifth in the high jump. Allen’s 3200-meter relay team also medaled, finishing fifth.
