Here are area youth baseball highlights from Wednesday and Thursday:
Ponies get win over North Bend – The Wayne Ponies beat North Bend 15-5 to open league play in Wayne on Wednesday. Jacob Kneifl was 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, and two walks. Josh Lutt reached base in four of five plate appearances. Trevor Deboer got the win, pitching four innings. The Ponies are 3-0 overall and the next game is Sunday night in Wayne against Tekamah-Herman.
White Broncos fall to Lyons – Lyons defeated Wayne White Broncos 11-2 in action Thursday. James Dorcey started as pitcher and had six strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings. Toby Braun pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief and struck out three. Tyler Reinhardt had a two-run single scoring Toby Braun and James Dorcey. Braun, Dorcey and Kaden Hopkins each had singles.
White Didgets get shutout win – The Wayne White Didgets defeated Lyons on Thursday night in Wayne, 9-0. Wyatt Heikes went five innings to get the win and Dominik Dominguez helped in relief as they combined on a no-hitter, striking out all 18 outs in the game. Heikes, Kaleb Moormeier and Easton Blecke lead the hitting attack, with Dominguez and Kaden Keller each reaching base three times.
Didgets Blue fall on the road – The Wayne Didgets Blue team lost to Howells-Dodge Thursday 5-3 in action in Howells.
Zach McManigal started on the mound and went three innings, with Devin Anderson pitching the final two innings. Devin Anderson, Parker Kesting and Gavin Redden all scored for the Blue team, and Redden and McManigal had hits. The Blue team is 0-1 and is back home Monday for a 6 p.m. game.
