Three area teams and one runner will represent the area at next week’s state cross country meet after qualifying in district action Thursday.

In the C-3 district at Pierce, Wayne’s girls ran away with the team title and the boys got in by the slimmest of margins, with just a single point separating the three qualifying teams.

The Wayne boys finished with 50 points and edged Bloomfield/Wausa for the tie-breaker, placing one point behind winner Hartington-Newcastle’s 49 points.
Three Blue Devils finished in the top 15, led by freshman Drew Miller’s fifth-place finish. Kasen York came home seventh and Alex Frank was 11th, with Adrian Klinetobe and Easton Blecke following in 27th and 28th place. Ethan McCraney was 32nd.

The girls race was dominated by Wayne, who had the top three finishers and had all six girls finish in the top 20, with five placing among the 15 medalists.

Twin sisters Jala and Kyla Krusemark finished 1-2 for Wayne, with senior Laura Haseman coming in third. Lilyan Hurner was 14th and Olivia Hanson was 15th to round out the medal placers, with Frantzdie Barner finishing 18th.

In the D-3 district at Pender, the LCC boys placed third in a tight three-team race to earn a trip to state, as their 37 points finished behind Norfolk Catholic (24) and Lyons-Decatur (34).

Tyler Olson and Preston Rose both finished in the top 15 medalists for the Bears, with Olson finishing seventh and Rose 14th. Carter Korth was 18th, Koby Detlefsen was 45th and Taner Stanley was 62nd.

In the girls race, Tri County Northeast runner Rhyanne Mackling earned the first state qualifying spot in team history, finishing 14th. The Lady Wolfpack finished fifth overall.
