AREA FOOTBALL -- Wayne 5-0 for first time since 1990

Football scores and highlights from Friday are as follows:

Blue Devils off to first 5-0 start in 27 years -- The Wayne High football team is 5-0 for the first time since 1990 after a 48-6 blowout of Madison. The Dragons scored on their opening possession, but it was all Wayne after that. Beau Bowers and Mason Lee hooked up on touchdown passes for 78 and 38 yards, Juan Vergara scored a pair of touchdown runs, Blake Bartos added another score and Kaleb Anderson returned a muffed kickoff return for a score to help Wayne to a 42-6 halftime advantage. Wayne's last score came in the fourth quarter on a pass from Tyler Gilliland to Marcus Fertig. The Blue Devisl take their 5-0 record to Pierce for a 5 p.m. game on Friday.
