AREA FOOTBALL – Wayne gets big road win

Here are Friday’s area high school football highlights:
Wayne pounds Madison in 48-7 win – The Wayne High Blue Devils won their second straight game with a 48-7 pasting of Madison on the road Friday. Beau Bowers rushed for over 100 yards and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. Tyler Pecena also had two touchdown runs on the night for the 2-3 Blue Devils. Mason Lee returned a punt for a score and Brennen O’Reilly and Juan Vergara both scored touchdowns. Wayne hosts 0-5 Pierce next Friday.
Winside game halted due to injury – Winside dropped a 36-0 decision to Randolph in a game that was halted early in the second quarter after a Winside player suffered a severe head injury and had to be life-flighted to a Sioux City hospital. The injury came on a pass play by the Wildcats, and the game was stopped with 8:55 to go in the second period. Coaches and school administrators from both teams conferred and agreed to end the game at that point.
Allen falls to top-ten foe – No. 6 ranked Wynot came to Isom-Hill Field and posted a 40-14 win over Allen in the district opener for both teams Friday. The Blue Devils built a 34-8 halftime lead and came away with the 26-point win. Garrett Brentlinger scored on a touchdown run in the first half and Kyle Smith added a score late in the game. Allen, 2-2, plays at Randolph next week.
LCC loses close on one road – After getting a close win last week, the LCC Bears dropped a 32-26 decision at Niobrara/Verdigre. The Bears led 16-14 at intermission but couldn’t come away with the win in an tightly-contested matchup. The 1-3 Bears host Plainview next week.
Trojans get win over Plainview – Wakefield improved to 3-1 on the season with a 30-20 win at Plainview on Friday to open district play. They’ll go for their second district win at home on Friday against Hartington-Newcastle.
