AREA FOOTBALL – Wayne pulls out comeback win

Results from Friday’s area football matchups:
Wayne comes from behind for 24-20 win – Wayne scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, the last coming with less than two minutes to go, to pull out a 24-20 win at West Point-Beemer. Beau Bowers scored the game-winner on an eight-yard run, and Grayson McBride sealed the deal with a late interception. Wayne is 3-4 on the season and plays at Norfolk Catholic on Friday.
Allen earns 36-7 win at Winside – Allen stayed alive in its hopes for a state playoff bid with a 37-6 win at Winside on Friday at Winch Memorial Field. Tayler Kumm scored three touchdowns and rushed for 208 yards to help the 3-3 Eagles. Brandon Watters scored Winside’s lone touchdown on a late 51-yard run as the Wildcats fell to 1-5. Allen hosts Emerson-Hubbard while Winside hosts Wausa.
Wakefield can’t keep up with Creighton – Wakefield and Creighton were both undefeated in district play, but the Bulldogs were too much for the Trojans as host Creighton came away with a 70-20 win. Solomon Peitz threw for a touchdown and ran for another, and Daniel Nuno also had a touchdown run. Wakefield, 4-2, travels to LCC on Friday.
Second half dooms LCC in 60-36 loss – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge hung tough with Hartington-Newcastle, but three straight third-quarter scores helped the host Wildcats come away with a 60-36 win. Mason Forsberg threw three touchdown passes to Jayden Reifenrath in the losing effort, and DJ Spahr and Noah Schutte both had touchdown runs. LCC, 1-5, hosts Wakefield on Friday.
