Area golfers compete in Wayne

Northeast Nebraska high school boys golf teams took to the course for a final tune-up ahead of district competition following the weekend.

From the Wayne Country Club, the Trojans were the host team for the Wakefield Invite on May 13 which featured 13 varsity and junior varsity teams.

No team scoring was recorded for Wakefield with three golfers.

The Wayne High JV boys golfers placed seventh shooting a 420.

Ponca won the Wakefield Invite with a 342, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge followed in second (370), Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) placed third (371), GACC took fourth (377) and Winnebago rounded out the top five teams with a 402.

Ben Jorgensen from Tri County Northeast was crowned individual champion after winning the playoff over Jace Wahls (Ponca) who both shot an 82. There were 52 golfers on the day.

Wakefield results were posted by Jacob Birkley in 16th with a 94, Drew Kubik shot a 99 as  Lane Fischer finished with a 116.

Theo Claussen collected ninth individually for Wayne High with a 90.

Other Blue Devil JV results came from Maddux Heithold (103), Hunter Nolte (113), Eli Hansen (114) and Jake Barner (118).

A trio of LCC golfers earned a top 15 medal being Gibson Roberts (10th) and Tanner Thompson (11th) both with a 91 as Talon Carson took 14th with a 93.

Luke Erwin (95) and Cade Johnson (97) also posted varsity scores for the Bears.

The co-op of Allen and Emerson-Hubbard were also led by Gabe Olesen taking fifth (85). Other Wolfpack results came from Landyn Servine (97), Jaxon Hall (107) and Braxton Sebadee (111).

The Wakefield boys golf team  will be joined by LCC and Tri County Northeast next competing in the C-3 District hosted by Battle Creek at Fair Play Golf Course  in Norfolk on Monday, May 19.

Wayne High will return to the course for the B-3 District Championships on May 19 hosted by Norris at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln.
