Area golfers see action at state

Two area golfers competed in their respective classes during the Nebraska State Boys Golf Championships that concluded on Wednesday.

In Class B action at Gering, Wayne High senior Bo Armstrong carded rounds of 83 on Tuesday and 84 on Wednesday to finish with a two-day total of 167, good for a tie for 39th place among 74 competing golfers. It was Armstrong’s third and final trip to the state tournament. He finished 13 shots behind the top 15 medalists for the 36-hole tournament, won in a playoff by Treyton Baehr of Beatrice with a 144. York (593) edged Norris (601) by eight shots for the team title.

In Class C play at Columbus, Ben Jorgensen of Tri County Northeast had rounds of 89 and 90 to finish in a tie for 44th out of 92 golfers with a 179. Jackson Dunham of Kearney Catholic shot a 149 to win the state individual title in Class C by three shots, leading his team to a state title.
