Area schools see action at State Track meet

Track and field athletes from LCC, Wakefield, Tri County Northeast and Winside made their marks during the State Track and Field Championships in Omaha.

Highlighting the two-day effort was Wakefield junior Jordan Metzler, who set a new Class C state and meet record with her win in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.35. She also finished third in the 400 and eighth in the 100 to score all 17 of Wakefield's points in the Class C girls race.

LCC and Wakefield both brought home medals in Class C boys competition. Dan Puppe finished fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles, but went down with a leg injury as he crossed the finish line.

Brothers Cael and Cade Johnson both earned medals for Wakefield's boys. Cade Johnson was fourth in the triple jump and Cael Johnson placed seventh in the 300 hurdles.

Winside brought home a medal in Class D action, as Kaden Hunt finished eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.
