Here are Thursday’s area sports highlights:
Volleyball
Wayne takes care of LHNE in four – The Wayne High volleyball team took care of Lutheran High Northeast in their home finale for the season, winning 25-15, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19. Shania Anderson hd a season-high 14 kills to lead the Blue Devils, while Lindy Sandoz added 12, Allison Echtenkamp had 11, Melinda Longe had nine and Kylie Hammer had eight. Sandoz had 26 assists and Brenna Vovos added 22. Hammer led the defense with 31 digs, Sandoz had 14, Emily Armstrong had 13 and Emily Matthes had 10. Wayne plays GACC in the first round of the Mid State Conference tournament on Monday at 6 p.m. in Pierce.
Wakefield splits triangular – Wakefield split its final triangular of the season, beating Winnebago 25-13, 25-10 and losing to Homer 25-18, 19-25, 25-22. In the Winnebago game, Savannah Nelson had six kills and Avery Zamzow added five to lead the offensive attack. Megan Borg had five ace serves and Giulia Ballarini added four. Briana Andrade led the defense with seven digs. Jessica Borg had 10 assists and Nelson added four. Against Homer, Borg had six kills and Zamzo and Megan Borg both had five. Andrade and Ballarini each had two ace serves. Zamzow had three blocks and Ballarini added two. Andrade had 19 digs, Nelson had 18 and Rachel Brudigam and Megan Borg each had 11. Nelson had 12 assists and Jessica Borg had nine. Wakefield faces Walthill in the first round of the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament on Saturday in Wynot.
Football
Allen ends season with win – Allen outlasted Wausa 47-20 on the road Thursday to end their season on a positive note. The 4-4 Eagles are on the bubble for the Class D-2 playoffs. An announcement on the field will be made by the NSAA on Saturday.
