AREA SPORTS – Golfers second at Stanton

Here are Friday’s area sports highlights:
Girls golf takes second at Stanton – The Wayne High golfers had four girls place in the top 15 and finished second out of five schools at the Stanton Invitational. Megan Kesier led the way, finishing fifth with a 117. Hana Nelson placed ninth with a 123, Marrissa Lutt was 13th with a 131 and Kecia Schenk was 15th with a 134. Taylor French (133) and Liz Junck (166) also competed. Wayne will play a triangular at Norfolk against Battle Creek and Elkhorn Valley on Tuesday.
Cross country teams open in Albion – The Wayne High girls cross country team came away with a fourth-place finish in their first meet of the year Friday at the Boone Central Invitational in Albion. Hannah Leonard and Andrea Torres both finished in the top 15 to lead the way, with Leonard placing ninth and Torrest taking 15th. Gabi Meyer was 16th, Marcella Jurtoich finished 20th, Molly Hoskins was 24th and Caitlin Janke was 25th. The Wayne boys were 10th overall, led by Jack Evetovich’s 43rd-place finish. Will Anderson was 46th, Brandon Wacker was 49th, RJ Liska was 65th and Cole Hobza was 77th.
