Here are Thursday’s area sports highlights:
Boys Basketball
LCC edges Wakefield in overtime – The Bears and Trojans needed an extra period to determine Thursday’s area matchup at Wakefield, but the visitors came away with the win, 71-67. Wakefield got out to an early led before LCC came back to take a two-point halftime lead. The game went back and forth from there until the Bears came out on top. Jayden Reifenrath had a game-high 27 points and Trey Erwin added 17 for the winners. Solomon Peitz and Parker Lehmkuhl each had 16 points to lead five Trojans in double figures. Isaac Camarena, Jose Sanchez and Israel Gardea each added 11 points.
Allen boys slip past Emerson-Hubbard – The Allen Eagles withstood a fourth-quarter comeback to earn a 43-41 win over Emerson-Hubbard at Allen High School. The Eagles led by eight going to the fourth quarter before the Pirates came back to make a game of it. Tayler Kumm led the Eagles with 18 points and Chase Johnson added 14.
Girls Basketball
LCC girls get win over Wakefield – The visiting Lady Bears had nine players get in the scorebook Thursday as they came away with a 41-27 win over Wakefield. Katie Leapley paced a balanced LCC attack with 11 points and Lorna Maxon added 10.
Lady Eagles fall to Emerson-Hubbard – A slow start was too much to overcome for the Allen Lady Eagles as they dropped a 47-21 decision to Emerson-Hubbard. The visitors built a 26-9 halftime lead on their way to the easy win. Bri Hingst had 12 points and Madisen Schneiders added five for Allen.
Wrestling
Wakefield outscores Winnebago in dual – Wakefield outscored Winnebago in a dual at Winnebago, 47-28. Charlie Lopez, Clayton Christensen and Julio Sanchez won matches for the Trojans.
