Here are Friday’s area sports highlights:
Boys Basketball
LCC boys fall in rated matchup – Coming off a big win the night before, the Class C-2 state-rated LCC boys ran out of gas in a matchup against Class C-1 ranked Winnebago Friday at LCC High School, dropping an 86-70 decision. The visiting Indians opened the game up with hot shooting from outside in the middle periods and led by as many as 21 on their way to the win. Jayden Reifenrath scored 28 points and Mason Forsberg added 23 for the 10-2 Bears, who host Wayne on Tuesday.
Winside boys get consolation win – The Winside boys basketball team came away with a 47-28 win over Bloomfield in consolation play at the Hartington-Newcastle Tournament. Winside pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Bees 28-12 in the final two periods. Dylan Brogren had 16 points, Brandon Watters added 11 and Colton Jensen and JaShaun Vyborny each had nine for the 6-4 Wildcats. Caleb Kampa added two points. Winside plays Tuesday at Santee.
Girls Basketball
LCC girls get win over Winnebago – Three Lady Bears finished in double figures as LCC got past Winnebago 50-33 at LCC High School. Katelyn Cook led the way with a game-high 15 points, with Lorna Maxon adding 13 and Katie Leapley putting in 11. LCC plays host to Wayne on Tuesday.
Winside girls fall to Bloomfield – The Winside girls dropped a 42-21 decision to Bloomfield in the consolation game of the Hartington-Newcastle Tournament. Winside got balanced scoring with Callie Finn and Alyssa Brogren each scoring six points, Andi Bargstadt adding five and Morgan Remm and Marissa Remm each adding two. Winside plays at Santee on Tuesday.
Lady Eagles defeated at Ponca – The Allen girls had a rough go at Ponca as the host Indians posted a 60-11 win. Bri Hingst had six points and Madisen Schneiders added five for the Lady Eagles, who return home Monday to host Randolph.
Wrestling
LCC falls in home dual – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge wrestlers lost a 48-12 decision to Winnebago in a dual Friday. The Bears got a first-period pin from Ethan Williams at 220 pounds, while Levi Jackson picked up a forfeit at 120 pounds. LCC wrestles in the Winside Invitational on Saturday.
