Here are Thursday’s area sports highlights

Wayne sweeps Crofton on the road —
Wayne took care of business on the road with a three-set win over Crofton in Mid State Conference volleyball action, winning 25-15, 26-24, 30-28. Lauren Pick had a match-high 12 kills to lead Wayne, while Emily Armstrong added seven, Kylie Hammer had six and Ashton Boyer and Shania Anderson each had five. Allyson Avery had 20 assists and Erin O’Reilly added 13. Defensively, Pick and Avery each had two blocks. Hammer had 24 digs, Armstrong added 18, Korrina Niemann had 17, Boyer had 14 and Hailey Backer had 12. Wayne hosts Battle Creek on Tuesday.

Winside gets rare win over Wynot — Winside improved to 10-5 with a rare win over Wynot at home, outlasting the visiting Blue Devils 18-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-18, 15-6. Andi Bargstadt had 18 kills and five blocks, Hope Cummins added 11 kills and six blocks, and Alyssa Brogren and Fauneil Olander both had eight kills. Sarah Wolfe had 20 assists and Brooklyn Behmer added 17. Wolfe had three ace serves and Behmer and Jackie Escalante each had two. Defensively, Bargstadt had 19 digs, Olander had 14, Brogren had 13 and Haylee Cummins added 10. Winside plays in a triangular Saturday at Bloomfield.

Allen falls to Hartington-Newcastle — Allen dropped a three-set decision at Hartington-Newcastle on Thursday, losing 27-25, 25-21, 26-24. Bri Hingst had 11 kills, Desi Martell added six and Haley Stapleton had four for the Lady Eagles. Cassidy Thomas had 27 assists. Summer Jackson had four ace serves and Hingst added two. Stapleton had 28 digs, Thomas had 19, HIngst had 16, Carly Dickens had 15 and Jackson had 13. Allen hosts Whiting (Iowa) on Tuesday and Winside on Thursday.

Wakefield drops first to Creighton —
In a matchup of two unbeaten top-10 ranked teams, No. 2 Creighton outscored No. 7 Wakefield 70-38 in a wild matchup Thursday at Eaton Field. The game was a wild one from the start, with seven touchdowns scored in the opening period and each team returning two kickoffs for touchdowns. The Trojans fell to 5-1 with the loss and will host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge next Friday.
