Here are Tuesday’s area highlights:
Boys Basketball
Winside goes to 4-1 with home win – The Winside boys basketball team are off to their best start since the 2006-2007 season after Tuesday’s 40-29 home win over Emerson-Hubbard. A 12-2 second-quarter run gave the Wildcats a 13-point halftime lead and they improved to 4-1 with the win. Dylan Brogren led a balanced attack with 16 points. Winside plays in the Randolph Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.
Bears still unbeaten after road win – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys had three players in double figures as they rolled to a 72-41 win at Bloomfield to improve to 7-0 on the season. Jayden Reifenrath and Mason Forsberg each had 17 points and Izac Reifenrath added 15 for the undefeated Bears, who play in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout Dec. 28-30 in Wayne.
Trojans hang on, stay undefeated – Wakefield stayed undefeated with a close win at Osmond Tuesday, winning 53-51. Wakefield takes a 5-0 record into the holiday break and will play in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Dec. 28-30 at Wisner-Pilger High School.
Girls Basketball
Wildcats fall to Emerson-Hubbard – A second-half surge by visiting Emerson-Hubbard helped them to a 51-30 over Winside in Lewis & Clark Conference action. Winside led 27-25 late in third when the Lady Pirates took control of the game. Andi Bargstadt hit four 3-pointers and paced the 0-5 Wildcats with 12 points, while Alex Bargstadt added seven and Callie Finn had five. Winside will play in the Randolph Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.
Lady Bears stung by Queen Bees – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears dropped a 55-45 decision at Bloomfield Tuesday evening. The loss drops the Lady Bears to 2-5 heading into the holiday break. They will take part in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout at Wayne State College Dec. 28-30.
Wakefield gets win on the road – The Wakefield girls improved to 2-3 on the season with a 49-40 win at Osmond. The Trojans will play in the Shootout on the Elkhorn Dec. 28-30 at Wisner-Pilger High School.
