Area students compete in Wayne State College’s Math Contest

Approximately 200 students from 23 area middle and high schools from Nebraska and Iowa participated in Wayne State College’s 49th annual Math Contest held May 9 on campus.

The Wayne State Math Contest is designed for middle school and high school students who enjoy challenging their math skills. Participating students took a math exam that was scored against other students, participated in a game of “Jeopardy!,” and enjoyed other activities including a math scavenger hunt, solving Breakout Box activities, and watching a planetarium show.

The math exams included pre-algebra, algebra, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. Each school could have two students registered for each exam. Once the exams were scored, the top 10 students in algebra, geometry, algebra II, and pre-calculus received certificates, with the top three receiving medals. The top five students in pre-algebra and calculus received certificates, with the top three receiving medals.

Participating schools were Bancroft-Rosalie, Bloomfield, Columbus Public School, David City Aquinas, David City Public School, Elgin, Emerson-Hubbard, Fremont Archbishop Bergen, Hartington-Newcastle, Harvard, Humphrey, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lawton-Bronson (Iowa), Leigh, McCool Junction High School, Millard North Middle School (Omaha), Oakland-Craig, Scribner-Snyder, South Sioux City, Stanton, Wausa, Wayne, and Wynot.
