AREA SUBDISTRICTS – LCC, Wakefield end seasons

Here are Monday’s area subdistrict highlights:

Wakefield ousted by Homer in C2-4 – The Wakefield girls basketball team faded down the stretch in the second half and ended their season with a 69-48 loss to Homer in the play-in round of the C2-4 subdistrict Monday night. Wakefield got out to an early lead and played Homer close throughout the first half, trailing 28-23 at intermission. Homer came out and took advantage of some Wakefield turnovers to build a 13-point lead going to the final period, then pulled away down the stretch to come away with the win. Jessica Borg scored a team-high 14 points and Kenna Mackling added 13 for the Wakefield girls. Also scoring were Savannah Nelson with seven, Liz Delgado with five, Jamie Dolph with four, Heidi Borg with three and Megan Borg with two. Wakefield ends its season with a 6-16 record.

LCC falls to Plainview in C2-5 – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears’ season came to a close on Monday with a 56-39 loss to Plainview in C2-5 subdistrict at Wausa High School. After both teams struggled offensively in the early going, Plainview picked up the pace and took a 23-15 halftime advantage. The Lady Bears weren’t able to keep up in the second half as the Pirates took control in the third quarter and went on to post the win, ending the Lady Bears season at 6-15. Lorna Maxon scored a game-high 20 points in a losing effort for the Lady Bears while Emily Hangman added 11. Bethany Kardell and Katelyn Cook each had three and Katie Leapley had two. Leapley led the defense with 10 rebounds and six blocked shots. Hangman grabbed eight rebounds, cook had five and Maxon had three steals.
