Although Mother Nature left a little white surprise Tuesday morning, Wayne High School was able to get things cleared off in time to run the Blue Devil Invitational at the Kern Track and Field Complex.
The Blue Devil girls finished fourth and the Wayne boys were sixth on the day. Wakefield’s boys finished fifth while the girls were sixth in the seven-team meet.
Wayne’s lone win of the day came in the girls pole vault, where Masyn Dorey took top honors with a best mark of 9 feet. Wayne also had runner-up finishes with Emily Armstrong in the shot put, Allison Claussen in the discus and with the 400-meter relay team. The best finish for the Wayne boys came in the long jump, where Aaron Reynolds claimed runner-up honors.
For Wakefield, the boys 3,200-meter relay of Gabe Peitz, Charlie Lopez, Jack Heitz and Sam Heitz took top honors in a time of 8:51.84. The bets girls finish was recorded by Breanna Chase in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.52.
