Three area teams will play in district finals action set for Monday as the Nebraska state basketball field was whittled down to the "Sweet 16" in the four smaller classes.

Wayne, which won the C1-7 subdistrict title, will face C1-4 winner Wahoo on Monday at 7 p.m. at West Point-Beemer High School. The two teams met back on Dec. 7 in Wahoo, with the Warriors winning 72-64.

Both Wakefield and LCC have qualified for district finals in Class C-2. The Trojans won the C2-6 subdistrict and will face South Loup, the C2-11 subdistrict winner, in the C2-6 substate final at West Holt High School in Atkinson at 6 p.m. This will be the first matchup between the two teams.

LCC lost a last-second 50-48 decision to Ponca in the C2-7 subdistrict final Thursday at Wayne High School, but the two teams will meet again for the C2-8 substate final Monday at 7 p.m. at South Sioux City High School, as Ponca finished as the No. 8 seed while LCC was No. 9. This will mark the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. Ponca won the first meeting on Dec. 11, 70-56, while LCC won in the Lewis & Clark Conference semifinals 83-65 earlier this month.

Games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but have been moved with the threat of severe weather this weekend. Winners of this round advance to the state tournament in Lincoln March 7-9.
