Several teams around the Wayne Herald coverage area began fall competition while another played their sixth game in a week.
From Tekamah, Wayne High softball won their fifth straight improving to 5-1 thanks to an 11-8 win at Tekamah-Herman. WHS will next visit Bishop Neumann (Wahoo) on Tuesday, September 2.
Wayne High volleyball (1-0) sweeps Ponca on the road and will next host West Holt on Tuesday, September 2 at 7 p.m.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball (2-0) wins both their matches during the Battle Creek triangular with the host Bravettes and West Holt. The Bears will next host Ponca on September 2 at 5:30 p.m.
Wakefield hosted West Point-Beemer and suffered a 3-0 loss to begin their season at 0-1. The Trojans will next visit Battle Creek on Tuesday, September 2 at 7 p.m.
Tri County Northeast volleyball (Allen/Emereson-Hubbard) began their season with a 3-0 sweep at Winnebago. The Wolfpack are next scheduled to host Humphrey-Lindsay and Homer on Thursday, September 4 starting at 5:30 p.m. in Emerson for Parent's Night.
Wayne State College (0-1) suffered a 28-21 loss against Nebraska-Kearney to begin their season. WSC will next host University of Mary on Saturday, September 6 at 6 p.m. during Family Day.
