AREA TRACK & FIELD – Allen teams take runner-up

Here are Thursday's area track and field highlights:
Allen boys, girls, second at Winch Memorial – The Allen girls and boys took home the runner-up trophies for the Winside Jim Winch Memorial on Thursday in Laurel.
Lexi Oswald won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs to lead the Lady Eagles, while Kaylen Smith won the 300 hurdles and took second in the 100 hurdles. The sprint medley took first, while other seconds went to Gabby Sullivan in the high jump and the 1,600-meter relay. S.T. O'Keefe (800) and Tayler Kumm (3,200) earned first-place medals for the Allen boys, and the 3,200-meter relay was also victorious. O'Keefe also had a second in the 1,600. Winside's girls were fifth, led by Kelly Tweedy's win in the discus, while the boys were ninth, capped by JaShaun Vyborny's runner-up finish in the triple jump. Both schools will compete in the D-1 district on Wednesday, May 11 in Hartington.
LCC teams run at Randolph – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge's boys finished fifth and the girls were sixth at the Randolph Invitational. Malik Knox won the 200 and was runner-up in the 100, and also ran a leg on the winning 400-meter relay to lead the LCC boys. Aaron Haahr also won the 1,600 and was second in the 3,200. In girls action, Lorna Maxon was the lone Lady Bear with a win, taking first in the 200. She was also fourth in the 100. Kaci Groene was third in the shot put and fourth in the long jump and triple jump. LCC and Wakefield will compete in the C-8 district track meet in Ponca on Thursday, May 12.

Wakefield teams seventh at Norfolk Catholic – Both Wakefield teams finished seventh in the Norfolk Catholic Invitational. In girls action, Josephine Peitz led the way with a first-place finish in the 800 and Jamie Dolph was second in the 3,200. Savannah Nelson had a hand in four medals, taking third in the 200 and long jump, fourth in the 400 and helping the 1,600-meter relay team to a third-place finish. In boys action, Dylan Hurlbert was second in the long jump and third in the 110-meter hurdles, while Daniel Nuno was second in the 400 and sixth in the 200 and long jump. Solomon Peitz was fourth in the triple jump. Wakefield joins LCC in the C-8 district track meet on Thursday, May 12 in Ponca.
