AREA VOLLEYBALL – Blue Devils beat another ranked foe

Here are Tuesday’s area volleyball highlights:
Blue Devils upset GACC in four — The Wayne High volleyball team celebrated Parents’ Night in exciting fashion, pulling off their second upset of a ranked team in the last week with a 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-15 win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic. The seniors helped carry the day for Wayne, led by Allison Echtenkamp with 19 kills and three blocks. Lindy Sandoz added 12 kills and 23 assists, Brenna Vovos had 24 assists, Kylie Hammer had 18 digs and Emily Mathes picked up 16 digs. The Wayne girls play in the Ord Invitational on Saturday.
Winside splits home triangular — Winside defeated Osmond in straight sets and lost to Homer in two sets in a home triangular. In the 25-15, 25-12 win over Osmond, Callie Finn had 10 kills and Sarah Wolfe and Alex Bargstadt each had nine assists. Fauneil Olander led the defense with 11 digs and Bargstadt picked up 10. In the 25-19 25-20 loss to Homer, Finn and Olander each had three kills, Bargstadt had five assists and two blocks, Finn led the defense with 10 digs and Haylee Cummins added eight. Winside hosts Bloomfield on Thurdsay.
Allen splits road triangular — The Lady Eagles defeated Winnebago and lost to Ponca in a triangular at Ponca. In their 25-17, 25-22 win over Winnebago, Bri Hingst and Haley Stapleton each had three kills, and Stapleton and Desi Martell both had two ace serves. Cassidy Thomas had five sets and Hingst led the defense with six digs. In the 25-16, 25-8 loss to Ponca, Hingst had two klls and Martell had two ace serves. Stapleton led the defense with five digs. Allen travels to Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday.
Trojans fall to Howells-Dodge — It was a rough night for the Wakefield volleyball team as they fell in straight sets at Howells-Dodge, 25-11, 25-12, 25-10. Briana Andrade and Giulia Ballarini each had four kills for the Trojans. Ballarini served up three aces, Savannah Nelson had four assists and 13 digs, Megan Borg led the defense with 15 digs while Jamie Dolph added 11 and Ballarini had 10. Wakefield hosts Pender on Thursday.

Lady Bears get win on the road — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyballers picked up their second win of the season with a straight-set win at Emerson-Hubbard, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20. Kaci Groene led a balanced net attack with seven kills, Katie Leapley had six kills and two blocks, and Bryn Schutte put down five kills. Katelyn Cook had 16 assists and Abbie Bloom added three. Cook and Schutte each had three ace serves and Ashley Wolfgram added a pair. Schutte led the defense with nine digs and Mady Holloway added seven. The Lady Bears play at Plainview on Thursday.
