AREA VOLLEYBALL — Wakefield gets win on road

Here are Thursday’s area volleyball highlights:

Wayne falls to state-rated Stanton — Wayne High gave state-rated Stanton a tussle, but the visiting Mustangs came away with the win in four sets, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17. Lauren PIck had eight kills, Kylie Hammer and Emily Armstrong each had five and Ashton Boyer and Shania Anderson both had four. Allyson Avery had 12 assists and Erin O’Reilly added seven. Hammer had 18 digs, Korrina Niemann had 15, Hailey Backer and Boyer each had 11 and Armstrong had 10. Anderson had four blocks and Pick had three. Boyer had three ace serves. Wayne plays in a triangular Tuesday at Pierce.

Wakefield gets tough win on the road — The Wakefield volleyball team dropped a close first set, but came back to win the next three, finishing off with a wild final set to win 22-25, 25-16, 25-12, 31-29 at Osmond. Devaney Brown had 13 kills, Jessica Borg added 11 and Breanna Chase had 10 for the Trojans. Rachel Brudigam added six kills and a team-high four ace serves. Borg had three blocks and Pommer added two. Chase had 15 assists and Borg had 14. Brown had 20 digs, Borg added 14 and Brudigam had 11. Wakefield plays at Ponca on Tuesday.

Allen handles Walthill in three sets — The Allen lady Eagles took care of Walthill in straight sets, winning 25-19, 25-12, 25-15. Bri Hingst had nine kills, Summer Jackson added eight and Haley Stapleton had five. Cassidy Thomas had 25 assists. Carly Dickens had seven ace serves, Thomas added five, Stapleton put up three and Hingst and Alyssa Boese each had two. Hingst led the defense with 18 digs, Stapleton had 14 and Jackson had 10. Allen hosts a triangular on Tuesday.
