Here are Tuesday’s area volleyball highlights:
Wayne wins two at Pierce — Wayne won both of their games in a triangular at Pierce, beating the host Bluejays (25-14, 25-19) and Boone Central/Newman Grove (25-11, 25-15). In the PIerce game, Ashton Boyer had nine kills, Lauren Pick added six and Kylie Hammer had five. Allyson Avery had 14 assists and Erin O’Reilly had eight. Hammer had 10 digs, Emily Armstrong and Korrina Niemann each had nine and O’Reilly had five. Hailey Backer and Boyer each added three. In the Boone Central match, Hammer had eight kills, Katelyn Brone added five, Armstrong had four and Pick, Boyer and Shania Anderson each had three. Armstrong had three ace serves. Boyer had eight digs, Hammer had seven, Armstrong had six and Backer and Niemann both had five. Wayne plays at Crofton on Thursday.
Allen takes two at home — Allen made quick work of Whiting (Iowa) and Winnebago in a home triangular Tuesday, beating Whiting 25-7, 25-18 and handling Winnebago 25-20, 25-9. In the Whiting matchup, Bri Hingst had seven kills, Haley Stapleton added four and Summer Jackson had three. Cassidy Thomas had 15 assists. Jackson and Hingst each had three aces. Hingst had 13 digs and Thomas added nine. Against Winnebago, Jackson had five kills, Desi Martell added four and Thomas and Hingst both had three. Thomas had 17 assists. HIngst and Carly Dickens both had four ace serves. Hingst led the defense with 16 digs. Allen plays in a tournament at Wisner-Pilger on Saturday.
Wakefield falls to Ponca — The Wakefield volleyball team dropped a three-set match at Ponca, losing 25-10, 25-21, 25-16. Devaney Brown had 13 kills and Jessica Borg added 12 for the Trojans. Breanna Chase had 17 assists and Borg added 10. Jamie Dolph led the defense with 18 digs, Brown had 14, Chase and Rachel Brudigam each had 12 and Borg had 11. Wakefield hosts Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Saturday.
Winside sweeps Niobrara-Verdigre — Winside took care of business at home against Niobrara-Verdigre, winning 25-12, 25-19, 25-23. Hope Cummins led a balanced net attack with 10 kills, Andi Bargstadt had nine kills and six blocks, Alyssa Brogren had seven kills, Brooklyn Behmer added five and Fauneil Olanders had four. Kati Topp added two kills and Victoria Buresh had one. Sarah Wolfe had 14 assists and Behmer added 11. Olander had seven ace serves. Defensively, Olander had 14 digs, Brogren added 11, Haylee Cummins had 10, Bargstadt had eight, Wolfe had six and Behmer, Buresh and Hope Cummins each had four. Winside hosts Wynot on Thursday.
LCC falls at Hartington-Newcastle -- The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball team dropped a three-set match at Hartington-Newcastle, losing 25-19, 25-11, 25-17. They will play at Wakefield on Saturday.
