Here are Tuesday’s area volleyball highlights:
Wayne falls in pair of three-set matches — Wayne High dropped a pair of close three-set matches in a triangular at Arlington on Tuesday, losing to the host Eagles (25-20, 21-25, 25-22) and West Point-Beemer (25-17, 23-25, 25-21). In the first match, Kylie Hammer had 12 kills, Lauren Pick added nine, Katelyn Grone had seven and Emily Armstrong and Ashton Boyer each had five. Allyson Avery dished out 30 assists. Hammer, Armstrong and Boyer each had two ace serves. Armstrong had 12 digs, Hailey Backer had 10 and Boyer and Korrina Niemann each had seven. Against West Point-Beemer, Pick had nine kills, Armstrong had eight, Shania Anderson added seven and Grone had five. Avery had 11 assists and Erin O’Reilly had five. Pick had three blocks. Armstrong and Boyer each had 12 digs, Niemann had 10, Hammer had eight and Pick had six. Wayne hosts Stanton on Thursday.
Wakefield 1-1 at Hartington — The Wakefield volleyball team went 1-1 in a triangular Tuesday at Hartrington-Newcastle, beating Wausa (25-21, 25-22) and losing to the host Wildcats (25-23, 25-23). In the Wausa match, Jessica Borg and Emma Pommer both had six kills, Breanna Chase added five, Devaney Brown had four and Rachel Brudigam added two. Chase had nine assists and Borg added eight. Brown had four ace serves and Borg added two. Andrea Lopez had nine digs, Jamie Dolph added seven and Borg and Brown both had five. Against the host team, Borg had five kills and Chase and Pommer both had four. Chase had eight assists and Borg put up four. Brown had three ace serves and Brudigam added two. Brudigam, Brown and Dolph each had five digs and Lopez added two. Wakefield plays at Osmond on Thursday.
Allen 1-2 in Ponca tournament — Allen won one game and lost two in a round-roubin tournament at Ponca on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles defeated Emerson-Hubbard (25-12, 25-16), while losing to Wynot (25-16, 25-22) and the host Indians (25-12, 25-16). In the win over Emerson-Hubbard, Bri Hingst had 12 kills and four ace serves, Cassidy Thomas had 21 assists, and Haley Stapleton had nine digs to lead the way. In the Wynot match, Summer Jackson had six kills and Desi Martell added five to lead the way. Thomas had 15 assists. Stapleton had 12 digs, Thomas added 11 and Hingst had 10. Against Ponca, Hingst had nine kills, Thomas had 18 assists and Stapleton and Hingst each had 12 digs, with Thomas adding 11 and Jackson picking up 10. Allen plays at Walthill on Thursday.
Winside falls in five-set thriller — Winside and Scribner-Snyder played a tight match before the host Trojans won the deciding fifth set to take the win, 26-24, 24-26, 25-19, 20-25, 15-5. Alyssa Brogren had 13 kills, Hope Commins added 12 and Andi Bargstadt and Fauneil Olander each had 10 for the 8-5 Wildcats. Sarah Wolfe had 20 assists and Brooklyn Behmer added 12. Cummins had three aces and Bargstadt, Behmer and Wolfe each had two. Bargstadt led the defense with 14 digs, Haylee Cummins added 11, Solfe had 10, Victoria Buresh and Hope Cummins each had eight, Olander had seven Brogren had six, Behmer had five and Kati Topp had two. Winside plays their first home match next Tuesday, hosting Veridgre.
LCC falls at Pierce -- The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball team dropped a three-set match at Pierce on Tuesday, losing 25-10, 25-12, 25-12. The Lady Bears host Creighton on Thursday.
