Here are Tuesday’s area volleyball highlights:
Wayne splits in three-game sets – Wayne split a volleyball triangular at home Tuesday, losing to Arlington (18-25, 25-18, 25-21) and defeating West Point-Beemer (23-25, 25-19, 25-15). In the Arlington match, Allison Echtenkamp and Shania Anderson each had 10 kills. Lindy Sandoz had 20 assists and Brenna Vovos had 15. Kylie Hammer, Emily Armstrong and Gabi Lutt each had eight digs. Against the Cadets, Sandoz had 13 kills and 19 assists to lead a balanced attack. Vovos had 22 assists and Hammer had 15 digs while Armstrong picked up 11. Wayne plays at Stanton on Thursday.
Wakefield sweeps triangular – Wakefield came away with two wins at Wausa, defeating the hosts (25-17, 25-7) and Hartington-Newcastle (25-23, 25-16). In the Wausa match, Megan Borg had six kills and Jessica Borg and Savannah Nelson each had five. Giulia Ballarini had 12 digs, and Nelson and Jessica Borg had 13 and 10 assists, respectively. Against the Wildcats, Megan Borg had seven kills and Ballarini had five. Briana Andrade had 25 digs and Ballarini added 11. Nelson had nine assists and Jessica Borg added seven. Wakefield hosts Osmond on Thursday.
Winside handled Trojans in three – Winside played a solid match and improved to 11-2 with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-23 win over Scribner-Snyder. Alex Bargstadt had 16 kills and 12 assists, while Fauneil Olander had 12 kills and Callie Finn posted 10 kills and a team-best 18 digs. Sarah Wolfe had 23 assists and Marissa Remm had seven ace serves and 13 digs. Winside is at Niobrara/Verdigre on Tuesday.
Allen drops three in Ponca – Allen went 0-3 in a quadrangular at Ponca, losing to Wynot (25-13, 25-10), Emerson-Hubbard (25-12, 25-20) and Ponca (25-6, 25-7). In the Wynot game, Haley Stapleton had three kills and Bri Hingst added two. Cassidy Thomas had two assists and two ace serves. Against Emerson-Hubbard, Hingst had five kills and Thomas had three kills and two ace serves. In the finale, Hingst and Stapleton had kills and Kaitlyn Madsen had two blocks. Allen hosts Walthill on Thursday.
Lady Bears drop five-set thriller – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge battled Pierce through five sets, but the Bluejays came away with the win, 17-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12. Kaci Groene had 13 kills and five blocks and Katie Leapley added 10 kills for the Lady Bears. Katelyn Cook had 26 assists. Lorna Maxon had three blocks. Bryn Schutte had three ace serves and nine digs, Mady Holloway had two aces and seven digs, Groene had seven digs and Cook had two aces and six digs. LCC plays at Creighton on Thrursday.
