Here are Thursday’s area volleyball highlights:
Blue Devils sweep Battle Creek – Wayne had no problems with Battle Creek on Thursday, sweeping the Bravettes with a 25-15, 29-27, 25-20 win. Lindy Sandoz had 12 kills, Allison Echtenkamp added nine and Melinda Longe put down five for the winners. Kylie Hammer had three ace serves to help the effort. Sandoz and Shania Anderson each had five blocks and Echtenkamp added four. Sandoz had 19 assists and Brenna Vovos had 17. Gabi Lutt led the defense with 20 digs, Hammer had 19 and Emily Matthes and Emily Armstrong each had 12. Wayne plays a triangular at Hartington CC on Tuesday.
Bears make fast work of Winneabgo – Laurel-Concord-Coleridge wasted no time with visiting Winnebago, taking care of the Indians with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-8 win. Katie Leapley, Ashley Wolfgram and Bryn Schutte each had seven kills for the Lady Bears, who have won their last four. Katelyn Cook had 14 assists and a career-high 10 ace serves, while Mady Holloway had five aces. Emily Hangman had 12 digs and Kaci Groene added eight. LCC plays Tuesday at Ponca.
Winside takes care of Allen – After a wild first set, Winside settled down and swept Allen in a matchup of area teams, winning 30-28, 25-18, 25-17. Alex Bargstadt had a triple-double with 13 kills, 19 assists and 15 digs for the 14-4 Wildcats. Andi Bargstadt added nine kills and Callie Finn and Fauneil Olander each had seven. Sarah Wolfe added 17 assists. Alex Bargstadt had eight blocks and Finn had six. Finn paced the defense with 24 digs and Wolfe added 16. For Allen, Kaitlyn Madsen had six kills and Desi Martell and Bri Hingst each had four. Cassidy Thomas had 15 assists. Hingst had two aces and 12 digs, while Katie Bathke picked up 11 digs. Winside plays in the Hartington Invitational on Saturday.
